As you probably know, I’m a great fan of the Amazon associate programs. For folks like us “affiliates” Amazon stores rock, but I’m not referring to the old style aStore that Amazon allow you to create. It’s been a while since I got excited about a case study but Carey Baird at Fresh Store Builder (FSB) does have an edge. One of the benefits I have for being a FSB premium member is access to the Carey’s case study video’s. You can imagine how I felt when I watched the first in the series of case study vids and was REALLY impressed with the approach that Carey was taking whilst he was introducing us to his method of niche selection.

Carey is the developer and owner of the Fresh Store Builder software. He had it developed because he kills it on Amazon and wanted a platform that made it super easy to build target niche sites that rank. The first steps that’s Carey takes us along is to enable s to evaluate a niche that’s going to make you money. There’s a 36 minute video where Carey explains why he approached niche selection. It’s not fair for me to share the video that Carey created as it’s in a private area. But the tasks that those who are willing to take up the challenge in Carey’s case study set up up for successful websites.

Tasks In Niche Narrowing

We are asked to make a copy of a spreadsheet linked in members “resources“. Add all our niches to the spreadsheet and fill out each column. The columns are as follows:

1. Price lowest
2. Price highest
3. Review ratings (average estimate)
4. Availability (“Normal”, “Delayed”)
5. Shipping (“Free”, “Charged”)
6. Quantity of products (estimate)
7. Commission rates (normal)
8. Long term potential (risky, normal, solid)
9. Competition (1 – 10, done via Google or Market Samurai)
10. Online Buyability (rare, normal, common)
11. Expandibility (limited, normal, easy)
12. Seasonal (no, yes)
13. Cheaper elsewhere (no, yes)
14. Content creation (easy, normal, hard)
15. Social potential (easy, normal, hard)
16. Video potential (easy, normal, hard)

The simplicity of approach that Carey uses in the video, plus the clarity that using a spreadsheet gives me is very re-assuring. I have great hopes for part two of the case study videos from Fresh Store Builder founder Carey Baird.
