For most of us when we start blogging – you learn quite quickly, blogging without engagement is a pretty lonely affair! There’s nothing worse than opening your dashboard and seeing zero comments on that article you poured your energy into.

Some bloggers seem to write 300 words and almost immediately  get 20 comments! –  Why is that … I’ll tell you why it’s because they engage, which mean they don’t just put the work in on their blogs, they spend time and energy on popular social  media platforms spreading their words.

There is one lady called Ileane Smith I see popping up on all platforms hourly, and Jim Connolly I notice Jim on google plus populating messages almost every 45 minutes. Engagement with their readers and their readers followers brings benefits.

Engage And Create Raving Fans

Let’s look at the top level as there’s far too many social platforms to cover, so in no particular order:

Twitter – Twitter is a great place to add short messages and connect with people similar interests and passions is easy to get started and quick and easy to setup. Twitter can have a massive impact on your business. To help you leverage twitter there are a bunch of tools and platforms. Can you get your point across in 140 characters of less?

Twitter Top Tool - I’m a recent fan of justretweet, The basic idea is you ethically bride other members with justretweet credits to share your content. Here’s a quick rundown of how it works.

  1. You draft your tweet RT @username is added at the start of tweets so with my username Mission0ps, I get 125 characters left to use.
  2. You put a value in credits on your tweet, I’ve seen most at 20 credits and the big players are throwing 100 credits at a tweet.
  3. How many times you are willing to pay for the re-tweet to be boosted. You can choose to add Facebook and Google+ as destinations for your tweet.
  4. Set how many followers the user must have before they can promote your tweet. I set mine at 100 but I’ve seen some set to 1 follower.
  5. Choose your category for the tweet and you are done. I think the category denotes which

Facebook – Facebook is somewhere you can’t ignore, as online marketers we’re able to target audience reach with Facebook quite easily. Networking with your audience and engaging with potential readers makes Facebook A great place to engage. Facebook groups Facebook pages, and Facebook personal profiles should be part of your daily routine. If you don’t engage on Facebook you should start today!

Facebook Smart Search – I know what you are thinking you just add a name or niche and hit enter right? Well WRONG – Here’s a neat little tweak as good as searching google with quote marks!

  1. Sign into Facebook and enter you search in the top search box that has in it ‘people places and things‘  - DON’T hit enter
  2. With the mouse pointer, click the little magnifying glass on the right of the search box area
  3. Your results are filtered by – people, pages, places, groups, apps, event’s etc plus you get numbers of followers info too

YouTube – YouTube owned by Google has grown in popularity tremendously, and used by many marketers as their favourite place for engagement with their readers and fans.

Creating videos to engage with readers is easier to do than it has ever been, Smart phones, and tablets make it easy to record contents on the move. Sharing content from a smartphone can be as easy as pressing a button. However engagement on YouTube means connecting with other channel owners as well as your own audience.

Links in your video – One of the newest features that YouTube offers video marketers is the ability to add links into our video’s.Now I could to make a video to encourage engagement of this blog as to how to do that … but instead I’ll leave a comment on another blog where you can watch the video to encourage engagement on this blog ;)

Couldn’t see any examples of how to insert with annotations so I did my own.

Google+ – Google plus is one social media platform not to be under estimated by serious marketers. Communities are growing at a fast rate in every niche area. You’re able to use Google plus and target local demographics which is particularly handy for local business owners or both of us that help market local businesses.

With the integration of Google maps using Google plus for search engine optimisation is a big win. With Google+ all also comes Google hangouts which is another new and huge opportunity to engage with your readers face to face… if you dare!

Google+ Picture Tip – One of the coolio things i like about engaging with google plus is the tweaks you can make with your pictures. Here’s hot-to:

  1. Sign into your Google+ account and add picture to ‘share wharf’s happening’ with peeps in your circles.
  2. Uploads a picture from your PC of wherever you wish – but don’t hit publish quite yet…
  3. See the T in the editor just below your picture – have a play around there.

LinkedIn is the preferred social platform for business professionals.  A point to note is that joining groups within LinkedIn really boosts your reach and offers yet another great avenue to engage with your bog readers on a totally new level.

LinkedIn Top Tips – The best I can say here is profile profile profile… Take the time to properly fill out your profile. There are some very good tutorials about creating a buzz on LinkedIn the right way..
