If your affiliate sites are not making sales It’s probably down to your keywords, keywords and with so many free keyword search tools out there I’ll show you what I use in my free keyword search.
FACT - if you are not taking the time needed to do keyword research you’ll be crying “WHY am I not making any money from my affiliate sites”? still 12 months down the line.
FACT – if you follow the easy steps I’m going to show you below, you WILL be shouting “Yip Yip I’m on the first page for my search term” within a few weeks – which will put you in prime position to make that first sale in no time.
Unraveling Buying Keywords
Before we get into the keyword generator software, the first step in finding the right keywords is understanding what makes people want to buy. 
Luckily we are all the same beast and are drivel buy a few ‘biological needs’ that we as affiliates would be good to keep a note of.
The biological desires that drive us are:
- Self Preservation: i.e., longer life, healthy life, sustaining life
- Protection: immunity, security and safety for self and loved ones
- Freedom: from anxiety, pain and threatening circumstances
- Food and Drink: pretty self explanatory
- Shelter: including agreeable living conditions
- Companionship: including friendship, sexual partners and family
- Approval and Likability: i.e., social acceptance online and offline
- Success: to be a worthy winner
These ‘fundamental want’s’ are the driving forces behind all we do. The order may change (i.e., freedom may occupy #1 position if you’re trapped in a bar when a fight break out, or the driving force for companionship may take the #1 position if your girlfriend of many years left you and the loneliness is eating your heart out.)….
…. The way we use this vital information with keyword research is what set’s an affiliate who makes sales apart from those that don’t!
What we strive to know
The key to buying keywords doesn’t just lie in tapping into our primal desires. We also lean towards a far more pragmatic learned desires that we all experience.
The above desire forces with the following learned desires will also drive people to make purchases, and when you tap into the desires you’re building a much better selling machine. Get it?
We’ve A Longing To Stay Ahead
Common ‘learned desires’ will also motivate people to buy when these desires are used in your title and descriptions with your keyword.
These Learned Desires are:
- Simplicity: i.e., shortcuts & easy
- Curiosity: how things work
- Being desirable: how seen by others
- Having a healthy body: feeling good inside and out
- Efficiency: competent and time saving
- Dependable and quality: in material objects
- Saving on spending: goes without saying!
- Making a profit: the entrepreneur in all of us
- Knowledge and staying informed: don’t want to miss out
Okay – now, let’s put this together so that it makes sense when digging up useful buyer keywords when identify your niche’s driving desires.
In other words – what problems are there in your niche that can be solved with your product? Identify that problem and target it with your title and sales copy. It is as simple as that.
Are you marketing to a group of people who have a common interest in losing weight? If so, their problem is being overweight. Can your product solve that problem? If so, look at the list of 8 biological and 9 learned desires and generate your keywords bearing in mind that information.

The Best Keyword Tool For The Job
For the purpose of this post I’m going to use the Jaaxy free keyword generator software. The reason I’m going to use Jaaxy is: It’s freakingly accurate.

Knowing what your audience needs is key Now those titles above look okay, but if I were to write content around example those titles above I may or may not get any traffic at all, let alone targeted traffic.
Why? Because I just pulled those titles out of thin air, I did zero research giving myself zero chance of ranking for keywords I want to rank for.
In honesty you’d be hard pushed to spot any keywords or key phrases being targeted in those titles. (which isn’t really a bad thing!) However that’s what I call “shooting from the hip” and it’s a big fail as far as affiliate commissions.
